Pandemonium

Acrylic and collage on paper, 42” x 108”, 2000

I had a sublet in an amazing rent-controlled loft apartment and workspace in downtown Manhattan, and lived there mostly on my own. According to our arrangement, the actual renter would occupy the apartment when she was in town. In the midst of working on this piece, I overheard a conversation about me indicating that she wanted her space back. Suddenly, my great arrangement would be coming to an end, and I would have to find an apartment and move again. This emotional state led me into a frenzy of emotion as can be seen by the gesture and movement in this multi-colored piece.
